The McClean Laboratory

Spectroscopic laboratory around 1910. Now the main display area of the Museum. In the foreground is a mercury-operated high vacuum pump.

The laboratory during the 1970s and 1980s was used for infrared work. Technologies included high vacuum, cryogenics, optics, electronics (photo: RM Catchpole).

In current use as the SAAO Astronomical Museum. The Museum was set up by IS Glass in 1987 with help from RM Catchpole and E Lastovica.
